The team behind Leave No-One Behind In Lymm
The Leave No One Behind In Lymm team is formed of a group of local residents who have come together during a time where some people are finding it hard to access the help they need. It all started with a simple Facebook post from a local resident Tracy Quinn, who had an idea to form a community group to help those in need. The response to the message was incredibly supportive and the spurred a rapid sequence of events into action resulting in Leave No-One Behind in Lymm being formed.
A group of individuals met on the 17th March at The Star in Statham to work through ideas and form a plan. The core aim of the group at that time was to find a way to help coordinate all the volunteers across Lymm who wanted to help, but in a safe, consistent way. Within days, posters had been designed, thousands of leaflets printed, hundreds of volunteers signed up and lined up to support, a website and a central phone line set up. To make sure everyone in Lymm had access to free help, every street was allocated a dedicated Street Champion and several volunteers. Street Champions picked up their bundle of leaflets and an explanatory cover letter that weekend and delivered them across all the houses in Lymm. This coordinated and branded approach was conducted to limit the chances for any malicious groups to abuse the situation and take advantage of people in need.
Everyone in the village should have received copies of the following postcards and leaflets with, which tell you who your Street Champion is for your road, give details of the services available, useful contact numbers and other useful resources.
Our village is incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive community. So many people have volunteered to help in so many ways. The aspiration of everyone involved has been to support the community we live in and ensure that nobody is left isolated or without support. Everyone involved supports voluntarily and do not ask for anything in return, we all just believe in helping each other in a time of difficulty.
As time has passed through the self-isolation and social distancing lockdown, the support and activities the Leave No One Behind Team has been involved in and continues to support has evolved. Some of current things that we are supporting with:
- Street level support through Street Champions and volunteers
- Providing a weekly food box and meal scheme for those who need support
- Providing a central contact number for additional help
- Coordinating regular “keep in touch” friendly calls
- Coordinating fundraising to support local initiatives
- Coordinating monetary, meal and food donations to help provide much needed food donations to those families in need who are unable to access the government support.
- Producing a weekly radio segment for Lymm Radio for Children. Tune in at 5pm on Sunday’s for “Kids Live at Five”.
Whilst we would love to be able to help with everything, please remember we are your local neighbourhood and not a professional body. We can only offer help within reason, and in ways in which we can also stay safe. If you need medical advice, use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service at http://nhs.uk/coronavirus, or if you have no internet access, call 111 from your landline or mobile phone. In a medical emergency please dial 999.
If you are self isolated or affected by Coronavirus and need help from the local volunteers with support, then please contact your street champion. Every street in Lymm has at least one volunteer providing you with support. You will have received a postcard from them and a letter from our group. Please call them on the number they have provided to you, however if they are unavailable, or unable to help, or you wish to verify they are part of our team, then please call our central team on +44 7510 749854.
